Yanin Rocío Campos Ruiz, a former contestant on MasterChef México, died on Monday, August 4 in a tragic car accident in her home state of Chihuahua, Mexico. Her death at age 38 not only shocked her followers, but also revived memories of a charismatic woman, passionate about cooking and with a multifaceted life.
Her sudden death was confirmed by her brother, Raúl Campos, via social media. “To family and friends: We regret to inform you of the passing of my sister Yanin Campos,” he wrote on Facebook, sharing the details of the wake, held at Funerales Hernández in Chihuahua.
The accident occurred on Saturday, August 2, while Yanin was driving on the Periférico R. Almada highway, according to reports. Her vehicle collided with another, prompting her to be rushed to Christus Muguerza del Parque hospital.
Despite medical efforts, the severity of her injuries was irreversible, and she died on Monday, as reported by Infobae. Her death sparked a wave of messages on social media.
Fans of MasterChef México, personal followers, and even former contestants from the reality show mourned her loss and fondly remembered her energy, authenticity, and love for cooking.
A Nurse by Profession, and an Online Entrepreneur
Although she was a nurse by profession, Yanin found her true calling among pots, pans, and homemade recipes. It was that passion for gastronomy that led her to participate in the fourth season of MasterChef México, which aired in 2018. There, she won over the judges with a cooking style they called “unmistakable.”
Although she didn’t win the competition, her charisma made her a fan favorite. Thanks to her popularity, she was invited back a year later for the special edition MasterChef La Revancha. She didn’t win that time either, but she achieved something longer-lasting: the affection of a community that followed her beyond the show.
She also chose to explore other paths to grow her fame, launching an OnlyFans account where she highlighted her appearance on the show, her professional background, and described herself as “controversial by choice.” Yanin Campos charged $7 per month per subscriber and used her profile to market products.
Close to Her Followers on Social Media
On social media, Yanin stayed active and close to her audience. On Instagram and TikTok, where she had over 170,000 combined followers, she shared recipes, everyday moments, and personal reflections.
On TikTok, where she was most active, her last post was uploaded shortly before her death. “May the anonymous fans never end, because they help with the views,” she wrote in a short video. The clip, accompanied by comments from her followers, took on a new meaning after her passing. Many fans still find it hard to believe she’s really gone.
