The newest wildcard Megan McKenna just tossed into the traditional English breakfast debate: syrup on the plate. The reality star turned country track bandleader posted a clip of her morning repast, which encompassed all the usual suspects—bacon, eggs, beans, and toast—with the unconventional sweet twist. Syrup, literally poured all over. And the internet had their reer.

In the video, McKenna got into all the details of breakfast preparation with the seriousness of a hardcore breakfast addict: beans cooked down until thick and stodgy (her words, not mine), eggs fried just right, and bacon that could probably bag an award. Then came the syrup: Drizzle, glaze, pool. “That is what you call a bun in your ass,” she jokes, obviously proud of her creation.
The post became highly divisive. Some were in full support, as in one follower stating, “Syrup all the way 😋,” while surely there were others genuinely disturbed about the combination. “I have no idea how you smother your cooking with all sorts of condiments and stay so slim,” one follower bewildered. Another one went straight to, “Where do you put it all? There’s nothing of you!”
But THE TRUE CONFLICT? The beans. The way McKenna cooks them down until thick and saucy really set off a discussion in the comments. “I thought I was the only one who cooks my beans like this 😳,” one user admitted, thus opening a little thread of bean lovers sharing their secrets of stodgy beans. “The beans have to be like that. Finally somebody has done this,” another said in sheer relief to have found their people.
And obviously, like for any breakfast debate, the question of “what’s missing” was violently argued. “Oh where’s the mushrooms lol xx” questioned one, while another added, “Add onions to your beans mami.” (Good advice, if we may say so.)
However, McKenna’s breakfast flex was not just about food—it was attitude. Burnt toast? Must-have. Garlic in eggs? Definitely. And that syrup? Well… if you can’t love it, at least respect its commitment.

At the end of the day, with or without syrup, one thing’s for sure: Megan McKenna knows how to stir a conversation. And if that conversation happens to be about beans and bacon? Excellent for us. So… who is trying the syrup tomorrow? No judgment. Maybe.
