Sunday features hot temperatures with very high humidity, with dew points once again at or a little above 70 degrees for many of us. An uneventful cold front passing through the area Sunday night will bring an end to this one-day heat fest, and immediately it’s on to cooler temperatures to start the work week.
For some significant proportion of students, this is the final week of vacation before heading back to school before Labor Day. Many college kids have already left.
Quick look Monday — breezy and sunny
Our Monday weather is influenced by a large area of high pressure sprawling down from Quebec. The position of this high is going to lead to northeasterly winds coming in off the water. This is going to keep the region under 80 degrees with sunny skies. As a matter of fact, some of the immediate beaches of the North Shore and down into Boston could stay under 70 all day. This is rather cool for this time of the year. When you add in the fact that dew points will be falling into the 50s and even some 40s, there could be a slight chill when you get out of the water.

It’s similar day on Tuesday with temperatures in the 70s, although the northeasterly wind will be much lighter, so temperatures at the beaches will be in the mid-70s. A very weak weather system might bring a sprinkle Tuesday night or Wednesday. Otherwise, Wednesday features a blend of clouds and sun with temperatures in the 70s.

End-of-week outlook — back in the 80s and humid
It will turn warmer at the end of the week and into the weekend with highs back into the 80s, along with moderate humidity — good beach weather. If you are headed to the beach after Wednesday, it’ll be important to check for rip current warnings. Although Hurricane Erin will pass safely hundreds of miles to the east of us, the waves from the storm will arrive on shore during the middle part of this week and create some high surf and dangerous rip currents.
The offshore forecast east of Cape Cod has the seas building 6 to 9 feet from Wednesday night into Thursday. If you have a boat trip planned, perhaps whale watching or something like that, you might want to bring the Dramamine.

Greater Boston: You can expect sunny skies Monday with a few puffy clouds and the temperature in the low 70s. It will be a bit breezy, especially at the beaches. Mid-70s for Tuesday with sunshine and less wind.
Central/Western Mass.: Look for sunny skies Monday with temperatures in the mid-70s and it will be breezy. It is approaching 80 on Tuesday with a blend of clouds and sun.
Southeastern Mass.: You’ll definitely notice the breeze Monday with the wind gusting near 30 mph at times. Any clouds clear out, with the temperature 65 to 70. It’s 70 to 75 with less wind and sunshine Tuesday.
Cape and islands: Any clouds give way to sunshine Monday with temperatures in the lower 70s and it will be breezy. Evening readings are in the 50s with mid- to upper 70s on Tuesday along with sunshine.
Rhode Island: Low 70s for Monday with a gusty northeasterly wind mid-70s for Tuesday with less wind. Both days feature sunshine.
