“That’s why when people say, ‘Mo’Nique, when are you going to stop with Tyler and Oprah?’ I’m not. Just so we clear, I’m not,” she said.
Mo’Nique explained that the pressure to stay silent is part of a generational mindset rooted in trauma.
“That dates all the way back to slavery. Just don’t say nothing. Just keep moving on. And that’s why we continue to be treated the way that we get treated,” the comedian added.
She emphasized that her stance isn’t coming from a place of bitterness or anger, but from a commitment to what she believes is right.
“I love my brother and sister or my sister and sister. Whatever day Tyler chooses, whichever way he goes, I love all of them. However, wrong is wrong and right is right,” Mo reiterated.
Mo’Nique’s feud with Perry and Winfrey dates back over a decade, following her Oscar win for “Precious” in 2010. She says she was blackballed for not promoting the film without compensation. She also expressed deep hurt over Winfrey featuring her estranged family on her talk show, including her brother, who admitted to molesting her.
While she’s since made peace with “Precious” director Lee Daniels, Mo’Nique continues to call for accountability from Perry and Winfrey, and she’s not letting it go anytime soon.
