The story centers around the real-life serial killer Ed Gein, played by Charlie Hunnam.

Per Netflix: “In the 1950s, Gein haunted the frozen fields of rural Wisconsin, killing and desecrating the bodies of multiple women. His crimes went on to inspire multiple classic horror films, including The Silence of the Lambs, Psycho, and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.”

The series currently has a 42% Rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 55% audience score.
Guardian gave it 1 out of 5 stars, writing: “It is nothing but a voyeuristic pandering to the basest instincts of viewers.”
The Times gave it 1 out of 5 stars, writing: “A dive into psychosexual murk almost drowning in its own ambitions and depravities.”
RogerEbert.com gave it 1.5 out of 4 stars, and says: “To say that Monster: The Ed Gein Story is one of the most unfocused of Ryan Murphy’s productions is quite a thing indeed.”
Variety writes: “Monster makes Ed Gein mythical again, and in turn strips away the texture and grit that was desperately needed to make the series work.”
