Nicole Kidman knows she can overcome “devastating” and “painful” events in life because of her past experiences.
Nicole Kidman has opened up about overcoming painful events in life
The 58-year-old actress – who recently separated from husband Keith Urban – has revealed she’s grateful for the wisdom she’s gained over the years because she knows that when life gets tough it can take “take an enormous amount of time” to heal but “it does pass”.
She told Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “The best part [of getting older] is the experiences that you’ve accumulated. So you go,: ‘Oh, I’ve been here before. I actually know how to handle this immediately.’
“Or: ‘Maybe I haven’t been in this place, but I’ve experienced something similar to this, and I do know that I will get through it.’
“There’s something to knowing that no matter how painful, or how difficult, or how devastating something is, there is a way through.
“You’re going to have to feel it. You’re not going to be able to numb it. You are going to have to feel it, and it’s going to feel insurmountable at times. You’re going to feel like you’re broken, but if you move gently and slowly – and it can take an enormous amount of time – it does pass.”
She also insisted being mother to her daughters Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14, with husband Keith Urban – as well as grown-up children Isabella and Connor with her ex-husband Tom Cruise – has given her “purpose” in life as it’s her job to protect them.
Nicole said: “My children [give me the] purpose of being their protector and their guide, promising them that I’m here and that, no matter what, there’s always a safe place to grow up in.”
In a separate interview with Vogue magazine, Nicole opened up about dealing with online judgement about her personal life and career and she insisted she doesn’t pay it any attention.
She explained: “Literally walk away from it. Because it will fell you. It will destroy you.”
The actress also insisted she felt scared for her daughter Sunday when she made her public debut as a model by walking the runway in a show for Miu Miu last year, adding: “It’s very frightening for m. [But] I started working at 14, so I don’t really have a leg to stand on.”
She also hinted at the troubles in her personal life, saying: “How many times do you have to be taught that you think you know where your life is going and then it isn’t going in that direction?”
