In 2001, after going through her divorce from Tom Cruise, Nicole made a promo appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman.
As soon as Nicole anthem the stage, David Letterman started peppering her with questions and comments about Tom.

Finally, after some back-and-forth, Nicole said the iconic line, “Well, I can wear heels today.” Nicole is said to be 5’11″ and Tom is said to be 5’7″, so this quote is definitely in reference to the height difference.
