
BOSTON – The No. 13 Boston University Terriers fell to No. 3 Minnesota, 5-2, on Saturday evening at Walter Brown Arena.
Minnesota took a 1-0 lead to which BU responded to create a 1-1 tie in the first. The Terriers then went up 2-1 in the second frame before Minnesota tied the game again early in the third. The Golden Gophers tacked on three additional goals in the final 10 minutes to climb to a 5-2 win.
Senior Sydney Healey and freshman Anežka Čabelová scored for BU, with Healey’s goal being unassisted. Healey and senior Clara Yuhn assisted on Čabelová’s goal. Graduate student Michelle Pasiechnyk made her first start as a Terrier, making 31 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Minnesota took a 1-0 lead when it lit the lamp at 6:36.
- BU responded just under four minutes later when S. Healey gained control of the puck in Minnesota’s end and took it up the slot to tie the game 1-1 with an unassisted goal.
- About 20 seconds later, BU went on a power play for 15 seconds due to a Minnesota hitting from behind call.
- The Terriers were called for hooking 15 seconds later.
- BU then was called for interference, giving Minnesota a 5-on-3 advantage for 12 seconds before having a normal power-play advantage for 1:48.
- The Terriers successfully killed off both penalties.
- With 12 seconds to go in the first, BU and Minnesota were both called for holding.
- The first 1:48 of the second frame was played 4-on-4 with no change in score.
- At the 10:38 mark, passes from S. Healey and Yuhn made their way to Čabelová at the front of the net, with her initial shot being saved.
- The freshman recollected the puck and lifted it in from the near post to give BU a 2-1 lead which extended into the third frame.
- At the 5:58 mark, the Gophers tied the game up 2-2.
- Minnesota then tacked on two goals at the 10:23 and 10:44 marks to take back the lead, 4-2.
- The Gophers were called for tripping with 8:29 to play but BU did not score on the power play opportunity.
- When Minnesota was called for roughing with 3:52 to go in the third, BU pulled Pasiechnyk from the posts for an extra skater.
- Minnesota scored at 18:45 on the empty net to secure a 5-2 win over BU.
GAME NOTES
- Minnesota outshot BU 36 to 27.
- BU was 0-for-4 on the power play while Minnesota was 0-for-2.
- The Terriers won 29 faceoffs while Minnesota won 24.
- Minnesota blocked 11 shots and BU blocked six with senior Maeve Carey blocking two.
