CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Under the lights at New Balance Field, No. 4 Harvard field hockey enjoyed another stellar night on both sides of the pitch, as the Crimson earn its 10th victory of the 2025 season with a 7-0 win against Boston University.
Sophomore forward Martha le Huray enjoyed a historic evening, powering the Crimson offense with two goals and three assists. le Huray’s three assists match the program record for most assists in a single game, as Casey Allen ’20 was the last Crimson to log three assists in 2018.
Along with le Huray, junior forward Sage Piekarski continued her phenomenal goal scoring form, as the Concord, Massachusetts native added two more goals against the Terriers. Junior midfielder Lara Beekhuis, first-year midfielder Rosa Kooijmans and sophomore forward Emily Bronckers all scored as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Both Harvard (10-0, 3-0 Ivy League) and Boston University (5-6, 2-1 Patriot League) enjoyed possession to start the evening at New Balance Field. The hosts found the first penalty corner chance of the contest, as senior midfielder and team captain Kitty Chapple deflected the shot wide of the cage.
Moments later, Harvard produced a scoring opportunity, as le Huray controlled the ball at the edge of the circle and fired a shot that was stopped by the Terriers’ junior keeper Sophie Ortyl. With just over a minute left, Harvard broke through for the lead, as a banger from le Huray was deflected into the cage by Piekarski.
At the end of the first frame, each side recorded two shots and earned a single penalty corner.
The Crimson offense dictated the tempo in the second quarter, as three different Crimson combined for four goals in the frame. It all started with a great pass from Chapple, as Bronckers had her first shot saved but then collected the rebound and buried a shot into the cage. Just 17 seconds later, a rapid run from Piekarski opened the Boston University midfield, as le Huray poked the ball into the cage to put Harvard up 3-0.
Just four minutes later, le Huray scored again, extending Harvard’s lead to four with around six minutes left in the first half. Harvard wouldn’t stop there, as a fantastic dribble into the circle from first-year forward Lucy Barker allowed a clean look at goal that Kooijmans took advantage of to push Harvard’s advantage to 5-0 heading into the halftime break.
At the conclusion of the first 30 minutes at New Balance Field, Harvard recorded 11 shots, eight of them on goal. Harvard’s defense was once again exceptional in the first half, as the Crimson held the hosts scoreless with just three shots in the first half.
Harvard wasted no time finding success in the second half. Just two minutes into play, Piekarski netted her second goal of the afternoon, putting the Harvard lead at 7-0. The Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week for the last two weeks, Piekarski has today scored in four straight games and has six goals in that span.
The Crimson capitalized on a corner opportunity later on in the third period. le Huray inserted the ball to Beekhuis, as the junior from Laren, Netherlands settled the pass and smacked a shot into the right side of the cage. The 2024 Ivy League Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, that goal marked le Huray’s third assist of the day, matching the program record for assists recorded in a single day.
From there, the Crimson controlled possession and stalled the hosts attack in the fourth quarter, as Harvard wrapped up a 7-0 victory against Boston University.
Harvard ended the day with 17 shots, 12 of them on target. Five different Crimson were responsible for goals against the Terriers, as Piekarski and le Huray logged double-digit goals. Strong defensive play at the backline and the midfield saw Harvard post its fifth shutout of the season.
