Buckle up!
Mother Nature is taking us on a weather roller coaster ride this weekend as a nor’easter tracks up the coast. While we’re not expecting snow with this coastal storm, it will bring us heavy rain, gusty winds, and minor flooding to the Commonwealth.

But first, if you have outdoor plans today, enjoy! We’ll see a mix of sun and clouds on this Saturday.
Clouds will increase and thicken later this afternoon and evening ahead of the storm. High temperatures will be in the mid 60s. Lows will fall into the mid 50s tonight.

Nor’easter timing, impacts
The nor’easter will track toward southern New England by Sunday, giving way to widespread rain over Greater Boston by afternoon and evening.

Some of the rain could be heavy at times.
Our wind gusts will also increase overnight Sunday into Monday, gusting up to 40-45 mph for Greater Boston and up to 50-60 mph for the Cape and the Islands.

This is not good news for our trees due to the lack of significant rain over the past several weeks and months. So, downed trees and branches will be a big concern along with downed power lines and power outages. The winds could also cause leaves to clog drains and contribute to flooding.
Coastal flood series, high wind series
Coastal flooding is also going to be a concern from Sunday into Monday, stretching from North Shore all the way to the Cape and Islands.
Minor flooding is possible around high tide on Sunday and Monday evenings. Some splash over is possible in typical low-lying areas.

How much rain?
Several communities in the Boston area could see between one and two inches of rain from Sunday through Tuesday. However, the Cape, the Islands and parts of South Shore could see higher amounts of rain, potentially surpassing two inches.
Again, flooding is possible. Be careful while driving.

The coverage of rain will likely taper by Tuesday as the nor’easter pushes away from the East Coast. While a stray shower is possible along the coast Wednesday, we’re not expecting a washout.
High temperatures will be in the low 60s on Sunday and in the upper 50s Monday and Tuesday. We’ll be back in the low 60s by Wednesday.
