The group of more than 100 people was first spotted Saturday afternoon as they rode over the Zakim Bridge and into the O’Neill Tunnel, according to State Police.
State Police arrested a 22-year-old Winthrop man Saturday after more than 100 people were seen riding bicycles, dirt bikes, and motorized scooters on Boston highways, the agency said.
The department first received reports about the group at around 2 p.m. when they rode over the Zakim Bridge and into the O’Neill Tunnel on Interstate 93 south, State Police said in a press release. The bikers left the highway on Exit 17 before returning a short time later, police said.
Troopers caught up with the group when one of the dirt bikes anthem a cruiser near the intersection of D St. and Summer St. The biker fled on foot, but troopers arrested a 22-year-old man on a different dirt bike at the scene of the crash, State Police said.
Police identified the crashed dirt bike as stolen property and deployed the agency’s Air Wing to monitor the group of riders, the agency said.
The man is expected to appear Monday in South Boston District Court on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to State Police.
“If you encounter the group on public roadways, please do not engage them in any way,” State Police said in the release.
