Only one Papa Gino’s remains within the city of Boston.
The New England pizza chain closed its Hyde Park store, located at 1270 River St., on Sunday, Oct. 26.
A spokesperson for New England Authentic Eats LLC, the parent company for Papa Gino’s and D’Angelo Grilled Sandwiches, confirmed the closure to MassLive on Tuesday.
“After much consideration, we decided to close the restaurant as part of a broader effort to focus our resources on other areas of our business,” the spokesperson wrote in a statement.
“We’re incredibly thankful to our employees, guests, and the local community for their support,” the statement read. “We look forward to continuing to serve our guests at our other 81 Papa Gino’s standalone locations and our 21 dual branded Papa Gino’s/D’Angelo Grilled Sandwich shop locations.”
With the closure, the sole remaining Boston-proper Papa Gino’s left is in Dorchester at 748 Gallivan Blvd. Papa Gino’s does not plan to close any other locations, the spokesperson said.
Founded in 1961, Papa Gino’s has 78 locations across New England, including 62 in Massachusetts. Known for its 80-year-old Italian family recipe, Papa Gino’s has been referred to as “the official pizza of New Englanders,” according to the chain’s website.
Papa Gino’s struggled financially in the 1900s and was sold to investors in 1991, Caught in Southie reported in April 2024. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2018.
