An easyJet pilot has been placed on leave and faces an investigation after he was reportedly seen roaming around a luxury resort drunk and naked.
Anonymous sources told The Sun that the unnamed pilot was stripping off his clothes and walking around the reception area of the Melia Dunas Beach Resort and Spa in Cape Verde in the early hours of Aug. 5. Passengers from the pilot’s flight the previous day recognized him around 2:30 a.m. local time.
One onlooker described him as being in a “paralytic” state as he made his way to the bar before moving to the gym and spa.
“As soon as we were made aware, the pilot was immediately stood down from duty, in line with our procedures, pending an investigation,” a spokesperson for the budget airline shared in a statement with PEOPLE.
They added: “The safety of our passengers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority.”
The pilot was set to operate a flight back to London Gatwick Airport on Aug. 6, but was relieved from his duties.

According to easyJet’s code of business ethics, staff must “behave honestly and with integrity when dealing with our people, our customers, our partners and the communities within which we operate.”
“This was breathtakingly unprofessional behavior from the pilot,” an anonymous source told The Sun of the pilot’s actions. “It was the height of stupidity. His career with easyJet is doomed.”
Another said: “The pilot did not have a stitch on and reeked of alcohol. He was so drunk that you wouldn’t have put him in charge of a toy aeroplane, never mind the real thing with hundreds of passengers.”
Representatives for the Melia Dunas Beach Resort and Spa did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Earlier this year, another airline employee was arrested and reportedly suspended after displaying concerning behavior on a British Airways flight.

Police from London’s Heathrow Airport were called by cabin crews on May 25 regarding the welfare of a man onboard, per a statement to PEOPLE from London’s Metropolitan Police.
The 41-year-old was taken to the hospital after the flight landed and was later arrested on suspicion of being unfit for duty, per the statement. The man has since been released and is under investigation.
Crew members told The Sun the man was a fellow British Airways employee. Allegedly, the flight attendant was missing from his in-flight duties and was later found naked and dancing in a business class bathroom.
His fellow employees then dressed him in first-class pajamas and buckled him into a first-class seat for the remainder of the flight, according to the outlet.
PEOPLE reached out to British Airways for comment on June 1, and a representative said, “This is a matter for the police.”
