Pitt reportedly made a QB change to Mason Heintschel after benching starter Eli Holstein ahead of the Boston College game. On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed the news Saturday.
Holstein was pulled from the game last week after throwing two interceptions against Louisville. He’s struggled to start the season, so Pat Narduzzi and crew opted for Heintschel this weekend. RB Desmond Reid will also miss his second straight game due to injury.
Holstein has 1,050 yards, 11 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 63.2% completion percentage this season. In two seasons at Pitt, he has 3,278 yards, 28 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a 62.2% completion percentage.
Holstein began his career at Alabama in 2023 but redshirted and did not see the field. Upon Nick Saban’s retirement and the arrival of Kalen DeBoer, Holstein opted to transfer and ended up at Pitt.
