PLYMOUTH, Mass. — About 100 people came together Sunday night to sing songs and pray for the family of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
Organizers said they want to gather to support one another. People in the crowd held candles during the vigil and took turns speaking about the shooting.
“Come together and think of something else other than themselves,” Hunter Young said. “We need to stop looking other side, left, right, democrat, republican. We need to say that’s a person.”
Young was part of the Turning Point USA chapter in Cape Cod. He met Kirk last year.
“That’s what it was, such a big thing he was a friend to many of us, and he stood up for us in many ways.”
One protester arrived right before the vigil began. He was seen shouting at people, questioning why they were there, saying Kirk’s previous comments on minorities, women, and the LGBTQ community were hateful.
“Can women not be happy unless their mothers? Did you hear about that?” The protester was heard yelling.
The man and others in the crowd started yelling and swearing at one another. Plymouth Police eventually arrested the man they said for disorderly conduct.
No other protesters were seen or heard during the vigil.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
