Police in Randolph, Massachusetts, are seeking the public’s assistance after two puppies were found abandoned in the city last week, one in such poor condition that it had to be euthanized.
Randolph police say they are investigating this incident of animal cruelty that involves two 11-week-old puppies — one male and one female.
A passerby found the puppies thrown to the side along a pedestrian pathway between the Martin E. Young Elementary School and Barbara Road in the early evening on Friday, Aug. 1, according to police, who believe the puppies were abandoned on or before that day.
The Good Samaritan notified the Randolph Police Department of what she discovered, and the puppies were immediately taken to the VCA South Shore Weymouth Animal Hospital for emergency care.
Shortly after arriving at the animal hospital, it was determined that the most compassionate recourse for the male puppy was to provide him with a peaceful passing due to the extent of his condition, police said.
The female puppy is not for adoption at this time, police added.
The Randolph Police Department said it is currently seeking the public’s help to identify whoever is responsible for “dumping these helpless dogs.”
Police believe the suspects are likely basement breeders of these mixed pups — possibly Shephard/Hound mixes with a distinct black tail.
While the puppies were abandoned in Randolph, police are asking nearby towns to pay attention, as well.
Anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area on or around Aug. 1, or anyone who may be aware of individuals breeding similar dogs, is asked to contact the police department at 781-963-1212. Anonymous tips can be submitted by texting “Randolph” to 847411.
