‘RHOP’ Alum Candiace Dillard Bassett Claims Wendy and Eddie Osefo’s Arrest Was Racially Targeted!
Real Housewives of Potomac alum Candiace Dillard Bassett says she was “floored” by the news of Wendy Osefo and her husband Eddie Osefo’s arrest on multiple fraud charges.
“I am shocked. I’m sad,” Candiace, 38, said during a live appearance on FOX 5 DC on Friday, October 10. “I’m literally just getting this news with you all. I was shaking,” she continued, explaining she found out about the arrests while on air.
“That $300 — and we’re arresting a mother and a father, business owners, entrepreneurs?” she added. “We don’t know what the charges are for, but we know the Osefos have a very successful marijuana business. They are providing jobs and opportunities for people of color in the DMV. My first thought is, are they being targeted?”
Candiace, who remains close to Wendy, said she was “heartbroken” by the news. “We text all the time. She never let on that anything was wrong,” she said. “I’m shocked — it just feels like someone is out to get the girls. How are two women from the same show dealing with arrests like this?”
Court documents show Wendy, 41, and Eddie, 41, were booked in Westminster, Maryland, on Thursday. Wendy faces charges of insurance fraud, conspiracy insurance fraud, and making a false statement to police after a grand jury indictment.
Their arrest stems from an alleged staged burglary at their Maryland home in April 2024. Investigators say the couple claimed luxury items were stolen while they were on vacation in Jamaica — but later discovered many of those “stolen” items still inside the home. According to the investigation, deputies also noticed photos on Wendy’s Instagram showing her wearing one of the “stolen” diamond rings after the alleged burglary.
Emails recovered from the couple’s accounts appeared to show Eddie writing to Wendy about the insurance claims, asking if there were “additional high-worth items” to add in order to reach their $423,000 policy maximum.
Authorities allege the couple’s insurance claims — totaling $450,000 in property loss — were fraudulent. Some items listed as stolen had actually been returned to stores for refunds prior to the incident. The scandal follows the recent release of RHOP star Karen Huger, who served six months of a one-year sentence for back-to-back DUIs.
Wendy has quietly special comments on her Instagram posts — restricting followers from discussing her arrest or mentioning the fraud allegations in her comment section.
Her team did release a statement, saying, “Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, are back home safely with their family and in good spirits.” “They are grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from friends, fans, and colleagues.” “The Osefos, alongside their legal team, look forward to their day in court. At this time, they respectfully ask for privacy as they focus on their family and the legal process ahead.”
