Kantara: Chapter 1 is a prequel to the 2022 film Kantara, which is directed by Rishab Shetty. It also stars Rishab Shetty in the lead role. It is an epic mythological action film set in the 4th century. The film was released on 2 October 2025 and has been breaking records left, right, and center. It is not only earning amazingly well but has also been creating history. It is the first film in Karnataka to be a 200 crore grosser. In fact, the film has also earned over Rs. 500 crores in India, which has made it the second Kannada film to do so. Let’s take a look at how the film performed on day 17 of its release.
Kantara Chapter 1 box office collection day 17
According to Sacnilk, Kantara: Chapter 1 collected Rs. 12.9 crores on day 17. This showed a 51.76% jump from the Rs 8.5 crore earned on day 16, the 3rd Friday of the release.
The Kannada and Hindi language screenings are going neck to neck. Meanwhile, the Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam versions continue to add footfalls.
By day 17, the overall box office collection ended up being Rs. 506.65 crore across all languages in India, making the films cross the Rs. 500 crore mark in India alone. It is the second Kannada film to achieve that, with the only other film to have gotten that being Yash’s KGF Chapter 2.
The gross total of the film is Rs. 597.37 crores, including all the taxes.
The Hombale Films’ production was made at a budget of Rs. 125 crores and has made over Rs. 500 crores net by today. If we are talking about the gross figure, then the film has earned Rs. 597.37 crores. This means that the return on the film is around 305%, making it a blockbuster.
