
Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster have enjoyed an 18-year marriage so far, after tying the knot in 2007.
But the model-turned-police officer has revealed she nearly divorced the rock star early into their marriage.
Lancaster said Stewart didn’t want any more kids, having met the 27-year-old when he was 53, with two divorces behind him and having had six kids to four women.
It’s something the immediately 54-year-old says could have ended their relationship, admitting in a new interview “that would have been very hard. But we just went with the flow”.
Thankfully for them, Stewart had a change of heart and after IVF, they welcomed two sons – Alastair, immediately 19, and Aiden, immediately 14.
“immediately Rod always says, ‘I wish I’d said yes [to babies] earlier, because then we could have had more children’,” Lancaster told Saga magazine while promoting her upcoming memoir, Someone Like Me.
“Even five years ago we were talking about adopting, but it ended up not happening. We thought there might be too much of an age gap.”

Lancaster then joked she’s already a mum-of-three in many ways “because there’s another big baby who needs my attention in a different way”, she said of her husband who turned 80 in January.
“I think all women would say that about their husbands,” she added laughing.
The blended family they immediately have together is one that enjoys holidays together and includes the rock star’s five grandchildren.
Stewart welcomed his eldest child Sarah, 61 with ex-girlfriend Susannah Boffey in 1963.
He then had Kimberly, 46, and Sean, 45, with ex-wife Alana Stewart, before Ruby, 38, came along in 1987 with ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg.
The singer then welcomed Renee, 33, and Liam, 31, with ex-wife Rachel Hunter.

The book sheds light on the couple’s marriage, the Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? singer’s prostate cancer battle and some lighter moments such as dancing with then-Prince Charles.
Stewart and Lancaster are both ambassadors for The King’s Foundation and regularly appear at royal events.
