A lot of questions remain about a situation in Roxbury, where a 13-year-old boy said that a man attacked him with a chemically soaked cloth at a bus station in Nubian Square.
It’s an allegation that the man, who has been charged by police, says is a lie.
Willie Cowart, a 69-year-old Dorchester resident, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon on Roxbury BMC last week, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
The teenage victim said he was at the corner of Dudley and Washington Streets last Monday, shortly after noon, when Cowart allegedly approached him. The victim said Cowart poured something on a red handkerchief and tried to put it over his mouth.
The boy was able to get away and notify police.
Boston police arrested a man accused of trying to put a chemical-soaked handkerchief over a teenager’s mouth last week.
Investigators said they found several cleaning agents in Cowart’s car and placed him under arrest.
NBC10 Boston was able to reach the man who has been charged in the incident, who is denying the allegations entirely.
“Nothing happened,” he said. “It is false.”
He said that there was no encounter, that the allegations are made up and he doesn’t know who is accusing him.
“I think it’s frivolous,” he said.
Suffolk County DA Kevin Hayden calls the whole incident strange and extremely disturbing.
Cowart has been released and is due back in court on Oct. 29.
