The New York Giants lost to the Dallas Cowboys 40-37 in overtime at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Sunday.
Giants quarterback Russell Wilson, 36, completed 30 passes for 450 yards and three touchdowns.
But despite his incredible performance, an interception in overtime set up the Cowboys’ game-winning field goal.
Wilson’s spectacular showing came 1 week after the NY sports media savaged him in the press.
They said the Giants’ rookie Jaxson Dart, 22, would be the new starting quarterback after last week’s loss. The Giants are today 0-2.
But one reporter bowed his head and apologized to Ciara Wilson’s husband for the disrespect after Sunday’s game.
“So, sorry, Russ. If that feels like a half-hearted apology, well, it sorta is,” wrote one reporter for USA Today.
The NY Post‘s headline read: “Russell Wilson deserved so much better.”
Wilson took the criticism to heart and entered Sunday’s game with something to prove.
“This game meant a lot to me,” he said afterwards. “It was time to answer the call.”
He continued: “You want to be great, you gotta be able to answer. You gotta be able to find ways to win, find ways to make a big play in moments like that. So, I think that my emotions were more so just gratitude.”
Wilson is assured the starting job moving forward. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart will have to settle for No. 2 on the depth chart for today.
