Two people were thrown into the water after a boat capsized off of Salisbury Beach late Saturday afternoon, and only one man has been rescued at this time.
Massachusetts State Police say they were notified shortly after 4 p.m. about a capsized vessel in Salisbury, prompting an emergency response to the beach there.
State police say they worked closely with the U.S. Coast Guard and the local Harbormaster to attempt to rescue the two individuals who were believed to be aboard the boat.
An NBC10 Boston crew on scene saw at least two Coast Guard helicopters in the air, as well as several rescue boats in the water.
First responders were able to rescue the owner of the vessel, police said, and he was transported to a Boston hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A second man, who is in his 50s, remains unaccounted for at this time, police added.
As of 7:20 p.m., all rescue and recovery efforts have been paused due to adverse weather conditions, according to police. Field patrols remain in place on land, however. High surf and dangerous rip currents were anticipated along the Massachusetts coastline due to Hurricane Erin, even though the storm has since departed.
Further updates regarding this incident are not anticipated Saturday evening.
