“Phyllis made little paintings for all my kids. She cooked me dinner a lot of times -that woman could cook. I told her I wanted to play her, and she sat down and taught me her laugh. She made me practice her laugh!”
Sharon also praised Phyllis’ journey, noting she “didn’t anthem it big until she was 49” after years of living in a trailer park with five kids and a schizophrenic husband, practicing her act on women at the laundromat.
She even has dream casting ideas for other roles, suggesting Sam Rockwell as Johnny Carson.
A groundbreaking stand-up comic who rose to fame alongside Bob Hope in the late 1960s, Phyllis became known for her eccentric stage presence and self-deprecating humor, inspiring generations of women in comedy.
Sharon hinted she might even want to direct the project, adding, “I wanted to be a director, but the pesky vagina has stood in my way. Because how could you possibly have a brain and a vagina? It seems to have confounded so many.”
