Southside Refuses to Produce for Gunna, Stands With Young Thug

Southside of 808 Mafia has made his position clear regarding Gunna.

In an appearance on “Drink Champs,” the producer was asked if he would ever consider providing beats for the Atlanta superstar. His reply was firm: “I ain’t making no beats for him.”

The reason, Southside explained, comes down to his decades-long friendship with Young Thug.

“Slime been my friend,” he said. “I made ‘Danny Glover’ for him. That blew him up, that’s been my friend when he ain’t had teeth in his mouth. He was signed with Gucci at first, so that’s been my friend for a long time, so I can never go against what he say, like you know what I’m saying?”

He added that both he and Thug operate by the same code of loyalty.

“If he feels some kind of way about it, that’s how he feel. He’s the same way with me. If I feel some kind of way about something with somebody, he just ain’t gonna f**k with it, you know what I’m saying? Just ’cause I feel some kind of way, so I just like I can’t do it.”

Southside confirmed that his choice is not negotiable, even if Gunna personally approached him.

“Can’t do [it]. F**k what they got. Can’t do it, you know what I’m saying? My dog is my dog, you know what I’m saying? It is what it is,” he added.

When asked about whether Gunna had “violated,” Southside stopped short of using the word but still offered his perspective.

“Street-wise, I would have never did what he did, like I’m just, that’s just me. Like you know what I’m saying, and if my brother did that to me, I’ll feel some kind of way.”

The tension between Young Thug and Gunna has been widely discussed since the YSL RICO case. In December 2022, Gunna accepted a plea offer that allowed him to be released from jail. While he maintained that he did not testify against Thug, many in the rap community felt his decision weakened his former friend’s defense.

As a result, their relationship has fractured, with Thug making no effort to reconcile.

For Southside, that history leaves the path forward simple: his loyalty lies with Young Thug.
