Drake recently showed off a diamond chain on Instagram that he says once belonged to Tupac Shakur.

However, Suge Knight does not believe it is the original one. Speaking from prison in an interview with “The Art of Dialogue,” the Death Row Records co-founder dismissed the claim. Knight explained that only a few people ever received real Death Row chains. Snoop Dogg was the first, but he later switched to a dog paw pendant. Dr. Dre and a few close friends had them as well, but most artists never did.
He also shared the story of giving Tupac his own chain after the rapper was released from prison in 1995. Knight remembered offering to get Pac a new one, but Pac refused.
“He’s like, ‘S**t, you my big bro. Let me wear yours, that’s more important. I don’t want a first one, I want to wear the one you got.’” Knight said Pac immediately wore the diamond-covered piece and that no one else ever had it.
Because of that, Knight says the chain Drake posted cannot be Pac’s.
“That’s not Tupac’s chain. It’s not a Death Row chain. Whoever sold you that chain, Drake, you need to go beat his motherf**king a**. wild,” he said.
The chain Drake posted has “All Eyez on YOU 1996” engraved on the back. It is the up-to-date example of his admiration for the late rap star.
This isn’t the first time Drake has paid tribute to Tupac. In 2023, Drizzy purchased his crown ring at a Sotheby’s auction for one million dollars, and in 2020, he commissioned two diamond chains inspired by the rapper, each valued at about three hundred thousand dollars.
While he continues to show his respect for the legend, Suge Knight is clear that the piece seen on Instagram is not real.
