Black Bear has locked a series of international distribution deals on Christy, the boxing drama starring Sydney Sweeney, which debuted at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

The film has also been sold to The Film Group for Greece, leading Film in Ukraine and Eastern Europe, ACME in the Baltics, Caribbean Cinemas in the West Indies, Forum Film in Israel, MovieCloud in Taiwan, Pioneer Films in the Philippines, and Star Entertainment in India.
Black Bear is distributing Christy directly in the UK and Ireland, in Canada via subsidiary Elevation Pictures, and in the US, where it will be the inaugural film of Black Bear’s U.S. theatrical distribution slate. Christy will be released in theaters nationwide in the U.S. on November 7.
The film is based on the life of Christy Martin and was directed by David Michôd. Sweeney plays Martin, a small-town West Virginian who became one of the first star female boxers by the late 1980s, soaring to global star status (she was the first in her sport to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated) under the guidance of her trainer-manager and eventual husband Jim (Ben Foster). The eventual world super welterweight champ and Boxing Hall of Famer’s toughest fights would come outside the ring, however, over family, identity, and a relationship with Jim that turns dangerous and life-threatening.
