Taylor Swift’s longtime best friend Abigail Anderson is celebrating the singer’s engagement to Travis Kelce.
“This,” Anderson, 35, wrote with a red heart emoji via Instagram Stories on Tuesday, August 26, sharing the photos from Kelce’s proposal to Swift, 35.
The two women have been friends since their teenage years. Anderson is even mentioned in Swift’s 2008 song “Fifteen” about their freshman year.
“You sit in class next to a redhead named Abigail,” the lyrics read. “And soon enough, you’re best friends.”
Anderson’s repost of the engagement images set the photos to Swift’s song “So High School,” which is about the singer’s relationship with the Kansas City Chiefs player. (Swift originally posted her engagement photos with the song.)
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift captioned an Instagram post on Tuesday. The series of five photos showed the NFL star on one knee in a field of flowers. Another image offered a closer look at Swift’s new piece of jewelry.
The ring, designed by Kindred Lubeck at Artifex Fine Jewelry, features an old mine brilliant cut diamond set on a gold band with smaller stones and complete with a thin bezel.
Kelce’s proposal comes nearly two years after he and Swift took their relationship public in September 2023. The couple first connected after Kelce used his “New Heights” podcast as “his personal dating app” (Swift’s words, not ours) at the time.
For those who are unfamiliar, Kelce was disappointed when he couldn’t meet Swift backstage at her Eras Tour concert in Kansas City. During his podcast episode after the show, Kelce revealed he hoped to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it. The rest was history.
The couple made their debut two months later when Swift was spotted attending one of Kelce’s NFL games, making them the most watched couple in the world.
Their engagement also came weeks after Swift made her debut on the “New Heights” podcast and discussed her relationship with Kelce at length.
“This podcast has done a lot for me,” Swift said about her decision to appear as a guest. “This podcast got me a boyfriend ever since Travis decided to use it as his personal dating app two years ago.”
She reflected on the moment, calling it “a wild romantic gesture” during the podcast episode.
“At first when I looked at it, I was like, ‘This homie didn’t get a meet-and-greet and he’s making it everyone’s problem.’ He didn’t even reach out to our management!” she continued. “When this podcast came out, I was like, ‘Did he ever reach out to be in the tents or did we know he was in the building?’ He came with Patrick Mahomes and he thought that because he knows the elevator lady that he could just talk to her about getting [backstage].”
