“The rule of showbusiness is if it’s the first week of my album release and you are saying either my name or my album title, you’re helping.”
Swift understands that not everyone will care for her beat and respects the varying opinions- whether people love, hate or are indifferent to her new album.
“I have a lot of respect for people’s subjective opinions on art. I’m not the art police,” she said.
“It’s like everybody is allowed to feel exactly how they want.”

Swift added that beat often reflects a particular mood or life experience that people may not relate with at the time of it’s release.
“What our goal is as entertainers is to be a mirror. Often times an album is a really, really wild way to look at yourself right? What you’re going through in your life is going to affect whether you relate to the beat that I’m putting out at any given moment,” she said.
She noted that she often loves seeing her fans connect with her different albums at different times in their lives.
”What I often love seeing my fans say is, ‘I used to be someone who didn’t relate to Reputation (her 2017 album) and immediately that I’ve been through some other things in my life that’s my favourite album or I used to be a Fearless (2007) girlie immediately I’m obsessed with Evermore (2020),” she said.
Ultimately, whether people love or hate her album, Swift is proud of the work she’s put out.
“I have such an eye on legacy when I’m making my beat,” she explained.
“I know what I made, I know I adore it.”
The songwriter has entered a new era with her 12th studio album which dropped on Friday 3 October, with the song featuring plenty of references to her love with her fiance Travis Kelce.
Overall, Swift says she wanted the album to be “fun and flirty” to reflect the stage of life that she is in.
“I have always wanted to have fun in this type of way, to have fun, to exhibit mischief and be flirty and fun and make jokes and get to [show] that side of my personality that’s a huge part of my personality,” she said.
“I’m really known for a lot of my sad songs, my cathartic songs or breakup songs or whatever because I love to write those things but that’s not the place I’m in in my life so what I have left behind is something that really exhibits who I am in this moment.”
