Police are also looking for five women, wanted for stealing clothing from an Alo store in the Prudential Center. Police say the women are repeat shoplifters. When a store employee confronted them, one of the suspects kicked them, police said.In another incident, police say one man is responsible for stealing nearly $40,000 of sunglasses from a Newbury Street Sunglass Hut.Days later, the same man stole another $30,000 worth of merchandise from the store’s location in the Prudential Center. Police currently have a warrant out for the suspect’s arrest. According to data from Boston police, larcenies in area D-4, which also includes the South End and Fenway, is up compared to this time in 2024, and up significantly compared to the five year average. “We were very pleased with their response, getting pictures out, where people are able to identify the perpetrators of these crimes,” said Meg Mainzer-Cohen, the president of the Back Bay Association.Mainzer-Cohen said the association had a meeting with Boston police regarding the thefts on Monday. Mainzer-Cohen said police will dedicate more officers on walking and bicycle beats in this neighborhood. “Is Back Bay a safe place for retail, hotels, restaurants? The answer is unequivocally, yes,” Mainzer-Cohen said.
