ORONO, Maine – The Boston University women’s ice hockey team (2-8-0, 2-2-0 HE) defeated Maine (3-6-1, 1-2-1 HE) in a 2-1 decision on Saturday at Alfond Arena.
Maine got on the board first with a power-play goal in the opening 10 minutes. BU did not answer until 31 seconds left in the second frame when it tied things up, 1-1. The Terriers found the back of the net midway through the third stanza to hold on for a 2-1 victory against the Black Bears.
Seniors Clara Yuhn and Sydney Healey each recorded two points with a goal and an assist apiece. Sophomores Tessa Demain and Kaileigh Quigg also registered assists in the contest. Graduate student Michelle Pasiechnyk made 27 saves in net.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- At 9:33 in the first, BU was called for interference.
- Maine capitalized on the advantage with a power-play goal at 9:42 to take a 1-0 lead.
- Both Maine and BU went to the box at 11:29 when the Black Bears were called for interference and the Terriers were called for tripping.
- Both penalties cleared without a change in score.
- BU went back to the box, this time for tripping, at 13:59 and successfully killed the penalty.
- A little under seven minutes into the second, Maine went to the box for slashing.
- BU then entered the box for body checking with 32 seconds left on the power play.
- With 1:13 left on Maine’s power play, it was called for tripping, resulting in 4-on-4 hockey once again.
- BU then had 47 seconds on the power play but did not convert through the advantage.
- The Terriers evened the score with 31 seconds left in the middle stanza when passes from Demain and S. Healey reached Yuhn, who maintained possession before firing a shot from the far circle that reached the back of the net.
- The Terriers were called for slashing 38 seconds into the third period.
- BU successfully killed the penalty.
- With 15:40 to play, Maine went to the box for a banger from behind.
- During the call, BU challenged for contact to the head that occurred at the 17:17 mark but was unsuccessful.
- Maine then killed the penalty successfully.
- Quigg passed to Yuhn at the dot, who sent a pass across the slot to S. Healey, whose wrister from the near circle gave BU a 2-1 lead at the 9:34 mark.
- Maine pulled its netminder from the posts for an extra skater with 1:21 to play.
- BU then went on the power play with 40 seconds left in the game due to a body checking call.
- The Terriers held on through the remainder of the period to defeat Maine, 2-1.
GAME NOTES
- Maine outshot BU, 28 to 21.
- BU blocked 16 shots while Maine blocked 14.
- The Terriers won 26 faceoffs while Maine won 18.
