BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Three members of the Boston University field hockey team garnered Patriot League weekly awards following the team’s 3-2 overtime win on Saturday to propel them to the Patriot League tournament.
Senior Caroline O’Brien was named the league’s offensive player of the week. She scored twice, posting the first goal of the game less than a minute after the initial push back to give BU a 1-0 lead. Then she assisted on the game-tying goal with just over three minutes remaining in the contest, sending the game to overtime. 45 seconds into the extra frame, O’Brien was at the back post to finish off the winning goal and clinch BU’s spot in the Patriot League tournament.
O’Brien’s five-point game was the fourth time she has notched five or more points in a game this season — she finished the regular season leading the PL in points (31) and was tied for second in goals (12).
Junior Maggie Driscoll earned midfielder of the week honors after scoring the game-tying goal and assisting on O’Brien’s first goal of the game in the 3-2 win over Colgate. Driscoll also notched a defensive slash to highlight her strong defensive play. her three-point game marked the first time in her career she has notched both a goal and an assist in a game.
Freshman Molly Driscoll picked up rookie of the week honors from the conference. She assisted on two goals as the inserter on two penalty corners, including the game-tying goal scored by her sister, Maggie. Her two assists were a career high.
The Terriers will next head to best seed American for a Patriot League semifinal matchup with the Eagles on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 11 a.m.
