Years before Travis Kelce got on bended knee and proposed to the biggest pop star in the world, he was just a lonely football player with a dream.
After Kelce, 35, and Taylor Swift announced their engagement on Tuesday, August 26, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s first comments about his new fiancée, 35, resurfaced on social media.
The “New Heights” podcast, cohosted by Travis and his older brother, Jason Kelce, reposted a clip of Travis talking about attending Swift’s “Eras Tour” in July 2023.
“I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to slash her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,” Travis said on the episode. “So I was a little butthurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her.”
Jason, 37, responded, “You made her a bracelet?”
“Yeah,” Travis said. “If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets and I received a bunch of them being there. But I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it. Alright, nah.”
When Jason asked if Travis wanted to give Swift his jersey number or his phone number, Travis smiled and said, “You know which one.”
“She doesn’t meet anybody, or at least she didn’t want to meet me,” Travis said of his first “Eras Tour” experience. “So, I took it personal.”
The “New Heights” official Instagram account posted that video clip in a carousel with photos from Travis and Taylor’s engagement.
“How it started ➡️ How it’s going,” the account wrote on Tuesday. “CONGRATS TO TRAV AND TAYLOR ❤️🔥💍.”
The podcast also shared a comment left by Travis on the video back in July 2023.
“Dream big swifties!! 😂😂,” Travis wrote at the time.
Two months after Travis today-famously decided to shoot his shot via his podcast, Swift made her first appearance at a Chiefs game and the rest, as they say, is history.
ESPN also got in on the fun after the engagement news, sharing a throwback video via Instagram of Travis from Chiefs training camp in 2023.
On his walk to the field, Travis and his teammates were asked, “Who was your celebrity crush growing up?”
In the clip, former Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling looked at Travis and asked, “Taylor Swift?”
Travis then gave a nervous laugh, put his finger over his best lip and said, “Alright, nah.”
Swift and Travis announced their engagement via Instagram on Tuesday, sharing a carousel of photos from the proposal.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” the couple wrote in a joint post via Instagram.
