Donald Trump announced new steps on Thursday to make in vitro fertilization more affordable for families struggling with fertility issues. Speaking from the Oval Office, he introduced federal guidance allowing employers to include IVF coverage as part of workplace insurance plans.
The move also includes a partnership with drugmaker EMD Serono to reduce the cost of popular fertility medications. “EMD Serono, the largest fertility drug manufacturer in the world, has agreed to provide massive discounts to all fertility drugs they sell in the United States,” Trump said.
Libby Horne, EMD Serono’s U.S. vice president, confirmed the discount, saying, “Through our partnership with the administration, we are proud to announce that Americans will have access to our leading IVF therapies for an 84% discount off list prices.”
Trump credited Senator Katie Britt for helping him prioritize IVF access, calling the initiative “the most pro-IVF thing that any president in the history of the United States of America has done.”
Supporters praised the plan as a step forward for families seeking fertility treatments, while critics questioned its timing during an election year.
