Bobby Deol BREAK silence on overshadowing Ranbir Kapoor in Animal: ‘Usne theek se nahi kiya…’
Bobby Deol recently shared his thoughts on fans believing he overshadowed Ranbir Kapoor in the film Animal. Read on to know what he said.
In 2023, filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga presented Ranbir Kapoor in a role unlike any audience had seen before. His blockbuster film, Animal, created a sensation at the box office. Although this action drama faced accusations of violence and misogyny, it’s undeniable that it was one of Ranbir’s best performances of his career. The film also marked a remarkable comeback for Bobby Deol, who was nicknamed Lord Bobby by audiences. Many fans believed that with his mere 15-minute role in the film, Bobby surpassed Ranbir. Ranbir Kapoor delivered a stellar performance in the film Animal, but when Bobby Deol’s character, Abrar Had, entered the screen with his entry to the song Jamal Koodu, he won the audience’s heart. Without speaking a single line, he left an impact that is still discussed today. In a recent interview with Filmigyaan, when asked if Abrar’s character proved more impactful than Ranbir’s, Bobby smiled and said, “Aisa kuchh nahi hai. Agar Ranbir ko 3 ghante sambhaalne the, mujhe sirf 15 minute sambhaalne the. Agar Ranbir woh 3 ghante nahi sambhaal paata toh mere 15 minute ka koi worth nahi hota.”
Bobby Deol’s reaction to overshadowing Ranbir Kapoor in Animal
Bobby further explained that his character’s impact was due to Ranbir’s masterful portrayal. He said, “Isliye hua kyunki Ranbir ka character, jis hisaab se Ranbir ne usse perform kiya… agar usne theek se nahi kiya hota naa, toh mera aana, matlab hi nahi rakhta.” The actor went on to explain, “I was lucky that Sandeep… See, an action film, a drama, only works when you have a strong antagonist and a strong protagonist, and they both have to really work towards winning. It can’t be, yeh shuru se pata hai ki yeh toh hero hi jeetega. Phir maza nahi aata, audience ko bhi maza nahi aata.”
Ranbir Kapoor is set to return with the sequel, Animal Park. On his birthday this year, Ranbir confirmed that shooting for the film will begin in 2027. Audiences are immediately eager to see what new side Ranbir will play in the sequel and whether Animal Park will prove to be even more of a blockbuster than the first film.
