Venus Williams has suffered a defeat in the first round of her big comeback.
The 45-year-old tennis player returned to the tennis court for the 2025 U.S Open, marking her first grand slam match in two years, on Monday (August 25) at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.
Venus played against Karolina Muchova, but lost 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.
Venus made history as the oldest player to compete in a singles match at the U.S. Open since 1981. She quickly left the court after the defeat, but got a huge standing ovation from the crowd, as seen in the video below.
If you haven’t seen yet, Venus‘ younger sister Serena Williams has been making headlines this week and it doesn’t have to do with tennis.
