
Udaipur Files releases on August 8
The release of the controversial film Udaipur Files, which stars Vijay Raaz and is based on the June 2022 killing of tailor Kanhaiya Lal, has been delayed for several weeks due to censorship issues. All revision petitions contesting the film’s CBFC certification have today been rejected by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), paving the way for its release. The movie released today, August 8.
Filmmakers made 55 cuts
The MIB stated in its order that the filmmakers had completed the additional voluntary edits for the film’s release in addition to complying with the 55 cuts mandated by the CBFC. Additionally, the Ministry emphasized that no fresh data or convincing arguments had been shown to support reversing the certification.
Udaipur Files sparks legal challenge in HC
Maulana Arshad Madani, the president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, and one of the the accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case petitioned the Delhi High Court, claiming that the Udaipur Files, formerly known as Gyanvapi Files: A Tailor’s Murder Story, discredit Muslims and would interfere with the accused’s right to a fair trial.

He further said, What is shown in this movie is against terrorism and not against any religion… My father’s case remains the same today as it was three years ago. His killers have not been punished yet… We don’t know how long it will take for us to get justice…
