There’s a new club everyone on TikTok wants to join — and it’s called “Group 7.”
Over the past week, the mysterious group has taken over the app, with users boasting about their exclusive membership in videos and comment sections. So, what exactly is this highly coveted group, and how do you know if you’re part of it?
The brainchild behind the trend is singer Sophia James, who kicked things off on October 17 with a series of TikTok posts. She instructed viewers that they were assigned to different groups depending on which of her videos appeared on their For You page.
“If you are watching this video, you are in group 7,” James announced in her seventh post. “I have posted seven videos tonight and this is the seventh one. Just a little science experiment to see what kind of video gets the most reach.”
“I don’t know what that says about you, but you’re in group 7. Welcome!”

While her first six videos each pulled in between 600,000 and 1 million views, the seventh went absolutely viral, racking up over 16.5 million views. It didn’t take long for influencers and celebrities to start celebrating their membership. Haylee Baylee, Eli Rallo and Dr. Miami all joined the fun in the comments, along with major brands like Oreo, which cheerfully wrote, “I am so happy to be here.” HBO Max also joined in, posting a reaction image of Leslie Bibb’s character Kate from The White Lotus season three, “judging groups 1-6.”
Sophia couldn’t contain her excitement over the viral response, posting a follow-up video with the caption: “The sense of camaraderie is unmatched.”
Other famous faces quickly revealed their Group 7 status. Barbara Corcoran of Shark Tank flexed her biceps to the audio, writing onscreen: “How it feels waking up in group 7.” Meanwhile, Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline greeted viewers from her bed: “Good morning group 7 baddies, how we doing?”
Tennis star Naomi Osaka also joined the club, swaying happily in a video with the text: “How life’s been feeling since I found out I’m in group 7.”
And yes, there are technically six other groups — but let’s be honest, no one cares about them. Group 7 is where it’s at, and if you found yourself on Sophia James’ seventh video, congratulations: you’re officially part of the club.
