Taylor Swift has appeared on her first podcast! And it just so happened to be her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s ‘New Heights’, which he co-hosts with his brother Jason – who did not disappoint. Oh no. Jason got right into alllll the juicy questions Swifties want answered, including, how Taylor and Travis’ relationship evolved in the first place.
Of course, the purpose of Taylor’s appearance on the show was to announce her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl”. But we got to see and listen to so much more. The way Trav and Tay interact with each other. The kiss he randomly plants on her hand. How comfortable and safe she feels around him. How in awe of her, he is.
Here’s everything the famous couple said about each other on the show:
1. What Taylor thought of Travis announcing to the world he wanted to date her:
“This podcast got me a boyfriend ever since Travis decided to use it as his personal dating app two years ago,” Taylor laughs at the start, referring to that time Travis declared on his show that he wanted a date with Taylor.
“It was such a wild, romantic gesture to just be like I WANT TO DATE YOU! This kind of felt more like I was in an 80s John Hughes movies and he was standing outside my window with a boom box like, ‘I want to date you. Do you want to go on a date with me? I made you a friendship bracelet. Do you want to date me?’”
2. Did Taylor think Travis was “lit” for being so forward?
Taylor said she quite liked the confidence he showed by telling the world he wanted to date her – “If this guy isn’t lit, which is a big ‘If’, this is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager….It was wild. But it worked. I’m glad it worked.”
She adds, “He’s the good kind of lit. I knew that he wasn’t lit the first couple of times that we talked. He’s truly getting to know me in a way that’s very natural, very pure, very normal. The way that he could make me laugh so immediately about normal things.”
3. Taylor loves Travis’ energy and vibe:
“Travis is just a vibe-booster in everyone’s life that he’s in. He’s like a human exclamation point. Like you know when you take a picture on your phone and you push the enhance colour button. That’s what you do to everyone’s life,” Taylor said, smiling at him.
4. Taylor says Travis welcomed her into his world:
“Also, you’re so non-judgmental about people. And you were not judgmental about the fact that I knew nothing about the world that you’re in. You were so nice.”
She explains that on their first date she asked him a question that in hindsight, she realises was “insane”:
“I legitimately asked him what it was like when the Chiefs played the Eagles in the Super Bowl and he looked across the field, across the line of scrimmage, and saw his brother standing five feet in front of him … and he didn’t even look at me. I immediately know what an insane question that was. He was like, actually, I’m on the offence. And my brother’s on the offence. I’m only on the field at the same time as defence. I thought everyone was on (at the same time)!
5. Taylor says it meant a lot to her to have Travis there when she reclaimed her masters:
“It was a couple months after the Super Bowl, we’re in Kansas City and I get a call from my mum and she’s like, ‘you got your track.’ I just very dramatically banger the floor, for real. Bawling my eyes out. Just weeping, and just like, ‘Really? Really? What do you mean?’ And I thought, get yourself together, just go tell Travis in a normal way. I knock on the door, he’s playing video games and I’m trying to say it in a normal way. And he’s like, ‘guys, I gotta go’ and he puts his headset down. I think you thought something was wrong. And then I just start absolutely heaving, crying.”
Travis adds, “Just deadweight” to describe her dramatic fall into his arms.
“I had no power in my legs to support myself,” Taylor continues. “I was so happy you were there when that happened, because I could not stand.
6. Travis says he was glad to be there with Taylor too at the time:
“I was crying too,” he said. “I was just so happy for you because I’ve seen how you make track, I’ve seen how you make these videos. I’ve seen the effort and the focus and the strategy behind it with just one album, Tortured Poets Department… And I was blown away you’d been doing this your entire life. For your first six albums, you weren’t given the rights to all of that. And I know what that looks like and I know how much it burned you that you didn’t have that and you didn’t have your creation.”
7. Travis describes Taylor as an athlete:
“Oh my gosh, she does more than I do,” he said, describing their gym sessions and the prep Taylor puts into her shows.
“There are similarities in term of her athleticism. What she’s doing for three hours. ..The preparation it takes, the goals that you set for yourself to achieve… That was at least fun for me to see when I saw you going on the tour and how much of a team you guys were.”
Though Taylor maintains sport is not her thing at all, both Jason and Trav recognise the intensity of doing three-and-a-half hour performances night-after-night for her fans. As Trav says, “not everyone can power skip in heels.”
8. Travis credits the Eras Tour with bringing them together:
“As much as you want to give New Heights credit, I give the Eras Tour credit. Because if I would have never gone to that show and been mesmerised, just been captivated and then left with such a desire to want to meet you, I never would have been on here and told everybody how butt-hurt I was. I had just never been so engulfed in the curiosity of who you were.”
Jason of course interrupts at this point to poke fun at his little bro: “One of the best things about that last statement is that you didn’t even know what the word ‘engulfed’ meant before you met Taylor. You’ve broadened your horizons.”
9. Travis says Taylor brings out the best in him:
“I’m telling you, she makes me so much better. You see you on the stage, and you see how you get an entire stadium going and then I get you in a room and it’s like I’ve known you forever. It was just the easiest conversation I’ve ever had. It was just so much fun. It knocked my socks off.”
He continues, “I had never experienced something so mesmerising on stage and then so real and so beautiful in person.”
10. Taylor says she loved having Travis on stage with her at The Eras Tour:
“It was so good. It was so special… It was kind of like a ‘wouldn’t it be funny, if?. I knew you were going to be down for it. I was never going to pressure you to do it but the fact that when we were talking about it, we were joking, I saw that little twinkle in your eye where I was like, ‘Oh, he wants to do it’…. You were so good. Every single beat. His comedic timing is amazing. And when the lights are bright, he slows down time, that’s when he thrives.”
Taylor says that moment he appeared on stage at Wembley generated “one of the loudest, if not the loudest,” screams she heard on tour.
11. Taylor says she loves embracing Travis’ world:
“I love this new world that Travis has shown me. It’s so fun, it’s so exciting. There’s so much pressure on these players. I kind of was like, I’ve only ever been in track seeing that but the pressure in sports, it’s just such a different type that I have such a respect for everyone that I meet on his team. Everyone that I see doing this, I’m just like, you’ve been focused on this since you were a kid and it shows.”
12. Taylor loves what a loyal person Travis is:
“Huge green flag is that Travis has had the same friends since he was like, 4 years old. And he’s incredibly good at maintaining friendships. He’s so loyal and his friends are equally loyal. They’re just the funniest, most hilarious group of people.”
Speaking about their pre-dating days, Taylor says everyone had good things to say about him: “Basically everyone who likes you, which is a lot of people, started reaching out to everyone who knows me…. There were friends who were like, he’s actually an amazing guy, he’s so great. There was a lot of people whispering in my ear about you and that’s not normal. There are people who were willing to go in and bat for you. They’re like this guy is incredible.”
13. Travis loves how their relationship has encouraged more girls to pay attention to the NFL:
“That was a pleasant surprise, seeing all the little girls at games and their proud fathers standing right next to hem,” Trav says.
“It definitely feels like a lot of people say that to us which is really kind because there was never a thought in either of our heads that that was going to be a thing,” adds Taylor.
14. Travis is impressed with how Taylor deals with fame and online chatter:
“She’s a pro and it took me a little while to be a pro about it I think. Her being so calm, cool and collected and so real about everything that’s going on, it really made me grow up real speedy in that aspect of things.”
