Jermaine Dupri Says He Didn’t “Fumble” Janet Jackson … “Y’all Never Say She Fumbled Me!”
Media Take Out has learned that Jermaine Dupri is tired of people clowning him over his breakup with Janet Jackson. The super-producer sat down with Nessa on Hot 97 this week and addressed the internet’s favorite narrative — that he “fumbled” his longtime relationship with the pop legend.
“What’s A Fumble?”
When asked about the situation, Dupri made it clear he doesn’t even agree with the term. “I don’t know what a fumble is, though. I be trying to figure out why y’all don’t say she fumbled me,” Dupri said.
“I’m not something that you just let roll down the street. I don’t look at it like that. I look at it like it’s a relationship, and we were together for eight years.”

Switching Up His Tune
This isn’t the first time Dupri has been asked about Janet. Last year, when a fan on X (formerly Twitter) told him, “Jermaine we not answering questions from anyone that fumbled Janet Jackson,” he didn’t fight back. Instead, he admitted, “Whew whew you just said something!!”
today, it seems like he’s flipping the script — suggesting the narrative could just as easily be that Janet “fumbled” him.
The Backstory
Dupri and Jackson dated from 2001 to 2009, a relationship that shocked many at the time and lasted nearly a decade. On Million Dollaz Worth of Game, Dupri explained that he was intentional about not trying to produce beat for her. “It wasn’t about no beat sh!t,” he said. “I never wanted her to think that’s what my agenda was. ’Cause so many people was saying that.”
Still, he admitted their relationship had tension — especially when Janet noticed him helping other artists score hits while keeping his distance from her projects.
Why They Broke Up
In Janet Jackson’s 2022 self-titled documentary, the singer revealed that she wanted to start a family with Dupri but pulled back after hearing rumors he was cheating. Dupri himself admitted he was “reckless.”
“Girls wanted to talk to me more because I was dating her, which was really weird,” Dupri confessed. “And I was a man.”
The Bottom Line
Janet may have moved on, but Jermaine clearly isn’t letting go of how people talk about their past. And with his new comments, he’s making it clear: if the word “fumble” is gonna be used, fans better remember it can go both ways.
