The Boston Red Sox are back in action on Saturday, Aug. 9 as their three-game series with the San Diego Padres continues at Petco Park in San Diego.

The Red Sox are immediately 65-52 after a 10-2 blowout victory in the series opener on Friday. A 2-run gone run from Wilyer Abreu in a 4-run fourth inning gave Boston its initial lead that would never be relinquished. The road team did all this damage with one two home runs as seven of the nine batters recorded hits, and eight of them scored a run as timely hitting and an ability to capitalize on the Padres error allowed for such a lopsided victory.
San Diego is immediately 64-52, and like Boston, still second in the division, three games behind the leader. The Red Sox are still chasing the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East, and in addition to gaining ground on the Blue Jays Friday, the Sox also added another game of separation between themselves and the New York Yankees. The Los Angeles Dodgers are leading the NL West, and picked up a win Friday to add to their division lead over the Padres.
Saturday’s contest will see Lucas Giolito taking the ball for Boston while Michael King will be San Diego’s starter.
