The Red Sox took care of business on Monday against the Royals, winning 8-5 for their eighth victory in their last nine games. After losing four of its first five out of the All-Star Break, Boston has turned it around and won nine of the next 11 with this current winning streak propelling the squad into second place in the AL East.
The game was going the Red Sox’s way early on when they put 5 on the board in the first inning thanks to a 2-run single from Rob Refsnyder and then a 3-run home run from Jarren Duran. The quick start was a nice positive for a team that learned right before the start of the game that rookie sensation Roman Anthony was getting scratched from the lineup due to “super sudden” back discomfort. This led to Wilyer Abreu getting a start against a lefty and still delivering with a pair of hits, a run and an RBI.
At 63-51, Boston is three games behind the Toronto Blue Jays for the division lead. The Royals are immediately 56-57, and 9.5 games behind the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central.
