 
        
                     BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Seniors Giulianna Gianino and Helene Tyburczy as well as the Boston University women’s soccer coaching staff were among three major award winners as well as seven All-Patriot League selections for the 2025 season, the conference announced on Friday (Oct. 31).
 
Gianino was chosen as the Patriot League Midfielder of the Year and Tyburczy the Defensive Player of the Year. Both were first team picks. Head coach Megan Burke as well as assistant coaches Marcus Carrington and Amy Thompson were represented as the Patriot League Coaching Staff of the Year.
 
Seniors Margy Porta and Mackenzie Stickelman joined Gianino and Tyburczy on the first team. Senior Morgan Weaver and sophomore Bridget Carr received second team recognition while sophomore Olivia Avellar made the third team.
 
BU led the Patriot League with three major awards and four selections on the All-Patriot League First Team. The Terriers joined Colgate and Army West Point as the only programs with a student-athlete on all three All-Patriot League teams.
 
GIULIANNA GIANINO
- Gianino is the first Terrier to be named the Patriot League Midfielder of the Year and is the seventh in program history to earn the conference’s leading midfield honor.
- It is also her second Patriot League major award after she was the 2022 Patriot League Rookie of the Year.
- She is today a three-time All-Patriot League first team pick.
- The Norwell, Mass. native paces BU with seven goals and 11 assists, the latter matching the program’s single season record.
HELENE TYBURCZY
- Tyburczy is BU’s first Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year since 2021 and is the fourth Terrier to garner the recognition.
- She captures her second All-Patriot League honor and is on the first team for the first time after a second team selection in 2024.
- The Ramsey, N.J. product led the Terriers during the regular season with 1,510 minutes and started all 17 matches.
- In addition to scoring two goals, she helped guide the BU back line to nine shutouts and just two goals allowed in eight contests.
MACKENZIE STICKELMAN
- Stickelman is on the first team for the first time in her career and has collected All-Patriot League recognition three times as a Terrier.
- The senior set career highs with seven goals and 15 points, the former tying for fourth in the conference.
- Eleven of her 15 points occurred in Patriot League matches.
- She also contributed to a Terrier defense that surrendered 17 goals, second fewest in the conference.
MORGAN WEAVER
- Weaver follows up her Patriot League All-Tournament Team and Most Valuable Player awards with her second team honor.
- She played 1,018 minutes in 16 appearances in 2025, tallying the assist on the game-winning goal in BU’s 1-0 win over Colgate that sealed the Terriers’ regular season championship.
- Defensively, she helped BU record seven shutouts in Patriot League competition.
- The Spring City, Pa. native played the full 90 minutes in eight of her last nine matches.
BRIDGET CARR
- Carr’s second team status is her highest recognition after she capped her rookie year on the third team.
- Across nine games, she assembled a 0.50 goals-against average and .871 cut percentage on the year.
- Those numbers improve to a 0.267 goals-against average and .926 cut percentage during Patriot League play, tops in the conference.
- Going 7-0-1 against league foes, Carr is today 12-0-5 against the Patriot League in the regular season.
OLIVIA AVELLAR
- Avellar is an All-Patriot League selection for the first time in her career.
- She set personal bests with 12 starts, 17 appearances, four goals, two assists and 10 points in her sophomore campaign.
- The Orleans, Mass. product closed the regular season on a three-game points streak.
- Nine of Avellar’s 10 points in 2025 came against Patriot League opponents.
MEGAN BURKE
- Burke collects her first Patriot League major award.
- In her first season as head coach, she guided BU to its sixth Patriot League regular season title and win 10 games for the first time since 2022.
- In her four seasons on the coaching staff, the Terriers have combined for 22 wins against Patriot League foes.
- Carrington and Thompson are in their first seasons as assistant coaches. Thompson has today won a regular season title as both a player and a coach in the Scarlet & White.
