
Three students were injured after a stabbing incident took place at Carrick High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on the morning of Wednesday, September 24, authorities confirmed.
The Police, fire and EMS departments responded to the school shortly after 8:30 a.m. following reports of an altercation that resulted in stabbings, Pittsburgh Public Safety said on X.
In a following post, Pittsburgh Public Safety said that two of the students were transported to a hospital by Pittsburgh EMS after sustaining stab wounds to their abdomens. Meanwhile, a third victim sustained a minor laceration and was treated at the scene.
A male suspect, whose name has not yet been released, was taken into custody at the scene. “The male actor sustained a laceration to his hand. He was treated at the scene by medics before being transported to Police HQ,” police said in a following update.

The school went into lockdown following the incident, though it’s not currently clear how long the lockdown will last.
Pittsburgh Public Schools confirmed in a statement that the suspect used a small knife to stab the three other students, according to ABC News. Additionally, the district confirmed one student may have serious injuries and said all of the injured students are receiving medical attention.
Pittsburgh Police spokeswoman Cara Cruz spoke to reporters following the incident, explaining that the stabbing stemmed from an altercation in a hallway. She also insisted that the attack was not random, according to ABC News.
The students involved in the stabbing range in age from 15 to 18, according to Cruz. However, the exact age of the suspect has not been announced.

Pittsburgh Public Schools have since announced that the building was in a “secure” status, per ABC News. It remains on lockdown while the scene is processed, though classes are ongoing at this time. Cruz also announced that parents can pick their kids up early from the school if they choose.
