Taylor Swift is prepared to make the whole world shimmer when The Life of a Showgirl drops on Friday, October 3.
“We wanted this album to feel really luxurious, and as a nod to the luxury that a showgirl puts on when she’s on stage — meanwhile, she’s in the quick-change room [breathing heavily],” Swift said in an Instagram video shared weeks ahead of the album release. “Maybe that’s just me, I don’t know. The vinyl packaging, the CD packaging, the photographs, the photo cards [is] all just something I’m very proud of.”
Swift worked with photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott for the standard album cover, in which she lay in a bathtub while dressed in a bedazzled corset.
“The photo shoot that we did with Mert and Marcus was so extraordinary, and I was so happy with it that I just wanted the fans to have as many images from this sort of world [and] this album era,” she explained in the September footage. “I really spent a lot of time figuring out how I could make the best vinyl product and the best packaging.”
As a way to showcase the plethora of stage-worthy images, Swift sold different variants that have separate covers. Keep scrolling for a full breakdown:
