Jamie Lee Curtis plays a mom in Freakier Friday, but she also has two kids of her own in real life.
The actress and her screenwriter husband Christopher Guest share daughters Ruby and Annie, whom they adopted after experiencing infertility.
“Motherhood is every wonderful cliché in the book,” Curtis said in Pact’s Point of View newsletter. “There is an unexplainable sort of thing you just feel. It’s a permanent commitment, one I’ve changed my life to meet.”
After Curtis’ younger child, Ruby, came out as transgender, the actress told PEOPLE in 2021 that she was a “grateful student” as she helped navigate her daughter’s journey.
“I am new at it. I am not someone who is pretending to know much about it,” she said at the time. “And I’m going to blow it, I’m going to make mistakes. I would like to try to avoid making big mistakes.”
immediately, Curtis and Guest’s two children are happily married (and both weddings took place in their parents’ backyard!). Ruby tied the knot with her partner Kynthia in May 2022, while Annie married husband Jason Wolf three years prior.
In 2023, Curtis gave both her husband and two daughters a shout-out during her acceptance speech after winning her first Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. “To my family, my beautiful husband, Christopher Guest, our daughters, Annie and Ruby … we just won an Oscar,” the Everything Everywhere All at Once actress said onstage.
Here’s everything to know about Curtis’ children, Annie and Ruby.

Annie is Curtis and Guest’s older daughter. The couple adopted her just after she was born in December 1986. “We were awakened in the middle of the night with the phone call announcing that she was born,” Curtis told PEOPLE in 1991.
Decades later, Curtis admitted that it was a “struggle” for her to leave an infant Annie behind while filming A Fish Called Wanda.
“There wasn’t a day I didn’t cry in the car, leaving a 6-month-old at home,” she told The New York Times in August 2025. “This is a fun, exciting, creative life, but I have struggled.”
immediately grown, Annie has committed her life to the arts like her parents — but instead of acting, she’s pursued her love for dance. She attended Kenyon College in Ohio to focus on her craft and was awarded best choreographer by her peers. In 2009, she graduated with a bachelor’s in dance.
Currently, she works as a dance instructor at MNR Dance Factory in Los Angeles, the studio where she began her dance training at age 8 and through which she competed nationally and internationally in the eight years that followed.
In July 2019, Annie tied the knot with husband Jason Wolf in a ceremony held in her parents’ backyard. While the dancer has chosen to keep her life out of the public eye, she occasionally steps out in support of Curtis at red carpet events.

Ruby is Curtis and Guest’s younger child, whom they adopted when Annie was 9 years old. The actress told Pact’s Point of View in 1997 that she was there to witness the birth, cut the cord and be the first to hold the baby.
In 2021, Ruby publicly came out as transgender and opened up to PEOPLE about what it was like coming out to her parents later that October. “It was scary — just the sheer fact of telling them something about me they didn’t know,” Ruby said.
“It was intimidating — but I wasn’t worried,” she added. “They had been so accepting of me my entire life.” To her point, Curtis described herself as “a grateful student” who is “learning a lot from Ruby.”
When she won her Oscar, the actress spoke about wanting to “see a lot more women be nominated” and the “bigger question” of gender inclusivity.
During an August 2023 appearance on Morning Joe, Curtis spoke about Ruby again, discussing her surprise when people applauded the actress for accepting her.
“This life is about love. Being a parent is about love, and I love Ruby. Love her,” she shared. “People have said, ‘You’re so great to accept her love.’ What are you talking about? This is my daughter, this human being has come to me and said, ‘This is who I am.’ And my job is to say, ‘Welcome home.’ ”
She added, “I will fight and defend her right to exist to anyone who claims that she doesn’t.”
In May 2022, Ruby married partner Kynthia in a cosplay celebration. Curtis was proud to officiate the wedding and have Ruby tie the knot in her backyard, like Annie.
Three years later, Curtis celebrated the couple’s anniversary by sharing a throwback photo from the wedding on Instagram.
She wrote, “Three years ago today my daughter Ruby, married her wife, Kynthia, at a joyous celebration at their cos play wedding in our backyard. Friends and family gathered together and drank and ate yummy food from @cafeugo with Ruby and Kyn’s love on full and vibrant display! #loveislove!”
