Amara La Negra—the indefatigable Afro-Dominican singer and reality TV star—has just experienced a whirlwind surge of pride for her own hometown, and trust me, she is happy for every single second of it. Singing loud and proud for Afro-Latina culture, the singer was enormously honored by the Dominican Folklore Association, giving rise to each and every fan talking about the gist of her Instagram post, which was dripping with emotion for the moment.

“Proud to be Dominican! I am, and will always be, proudly Dominican. It is such an honor that fills my heart to have received this recognition from the Dominican Folklore Association,” one caption said for the Instagram photo. She let forth thanks for anybody who had been there for her through thick and thin throughout her journey. “This recognition belongs to all of us because every achievement I reach I do it with you in my heart,” she further added.
The video? It was fabulous! Amara got a little teary for the acceptance speech, put together in some kind of traditional Dominican inspired outfit (there wasn’t any description with the image, but her vibes did half the painting for me). “This means so much to me,” she said, voice almost cracking in tears. “Every achievement I have is also an achievement for the Dominican community, for all the hard-working people who are trying to raise their voices here in the U.S.” She represents the DR quite proudly: “My mother is from Guachupita, my father from San Cristóbal.”
The affectionate comments just kept rolling in. That one user said, “I’m proud to share nationality with this entrepreneurial woman.” Another one came, “Congratulations on your triumphs, God bless you.” But it was getting interesting as a very intriguing reply said, “My family on my father’s side is also from Sánchez/Samana. Guess we’re cousins lol. Jokes aside, I’m proud of you. Keep up the good work.” Could it have been just distant family or just a little family pride? Either way, it felt real.
Amara’s rise has never just been about track; it’s always been about identity. She’s been the loud and proud voice for Afro-Latinx visibility in entertainment from those early days of her appearances on Love & Hip Hop: Miami. So she says, “it’s for me,” and is so proud of this one. She also spoke about the October festival that will be held in Parque Juan Pablo Duarte. Mark these dates because whenever Amara touches an event, that’s going to be a celebration of her culture.

Then what is next for La Negra? Well, more track, more hustle, and many more moments standing in her truth, representing the Dominican Republic like no one else ever could. Judging from the comments section, her people are invested in this every single moment. In fact, she continues to perplex everyone with her talent, as seen in her bold posts and her seductive fashion shoots that always leave fans wanting more.
