An appeals court just gave Trump the go-ahead on a major immigration move that could affect hundreds of thousands of people.
On Friday, the First Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Department of Homeland Security has the authority to end the CHNV humanitarian parole program, which allowed migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to live and work in the U.S. temporarily.
The decision impacts around 430,000 migrants who came under the program. A lower court had previously blocked the administration from ending it, but the appeals court overturned that ruling.
The parole program was launched under Biden as a pathway for people fleeing unstable conditions. Trump officials have argued from the start that it was never meant to be permanent, and the court sided with them.
For immediately, DHS can move forward with stripping parole and work authorization.
