Ashanti and Ja Rule performed at the Washington Nationals’ Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Day on August 29 at Nats Park in Washington, D.C.
After the game, rapper Ja Rule and Grammy-award winning singer Ashanti performed as part of the Nats Postgame Summer Concert series.

Ashanti, 44, and Ja Rule, 49, performed their banger, “Mesmerize.” Ashanti also performed a medley of her banger songs, including “Foolish,” “What’s Luv?,” and “Always on Time.”

In a previous interview, Ashanti recalled her “peaceful” reconciliation with her former duet partner, Ja Rule, and the late track producer Irv Gotti. Gotti died on Feb. 5, 2025 from complications of a stroke at age 54.

“It’s a blessing, because there was definitely a time when nobody was messing with each other,” she said in an interview in 2014. “I can’t say that. Me and [Ja Rule] were always talking. Wait, I can’t say that either. We went through a space, which was not cool. Me and Irv definitely went through years of where there was not even half of a breath said…or breathed.”

In a recent interview, Ja Rule said he used to tease Ashanti about getting back together with rapper Nelly: “They’re great together,” he said.
Ashanti and Nelly reunited in 2023 and announced they were expecting a child together. They secretly married on December 27, 2023 and welcomed their son, Kareem “KK” Haynes, in July 2024.
