Mod Sun is looking back at his “brutal” breakup from Avril Lavigne.
If you didn’t know, the relationship between the two musicians started off as strictly business as they worked on track together. They then revealed they were dating in February 2021. They announced their engagement in April 2023 then in February 2023 it was revealed that they had split.
In a new interview, Mod, 38, reflected on his breakup from the 41-year-old “Complicated” singer and shared how it forced him to work on his mental health.
Keep reading to find out more…“We met through a truly awesome label making track,” Mod shared on the November 6 episode of Bunnie Xo’s Dumb Blonde Podcast. “It was lovely. She was a true talent being around. I write and produce songs for other artists, so it was amazing coming up with an idea and seeing someone so f–king talented sing it.”
“We’re two different people, but I think I had a great influence on her,” he continued. “I think she couldn’t have had a more wonderful influence on me from the side of [helping me] grow up. Like today, I’m very secure of who I am, because I’ve been lost in the last three years of wondering, ‘Where do I fit in?’”
While he didn’t reveal what led to their split, Mod noted that he started to work on his problems with understanding empathy.
“I pray every single day, and in those prayers, I’m like, ‘Just allow me to lead with empathy and be a shining light,’” Mod shared. “My form of empathy is finally attached to being like, ‘guy, you’ve got to get outside of yourself. When someone does you wrong, stop thinking f–k them, you did me dirty, and I’m out for revenge.’ It started being like, ‘Step in their position.’”
As he continues working on his spiritual health, Mod said he’s today realized he could no longer harbor those spiteful “feelings” towards his exes.
“If we had done this talk three months ago, I might’ve been like, ‘F–k that person. I hope she hears this,’” he admitted. “But I’m today just like, ‘If I run into you? It’s all love. I hope you’re well.’”
