The new CBS soap opera series Beyond the Gates just killed off its first major character.
The series launched in February 2025 and follows a powerful and prestigious family that reigns over a posh gated community with juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered.

Jason Graham’s character Doug McBride was discovered dead after a fiery car accident, seven months into the show’s run on CBS.
It’s presumed that the car crash was not an accident and was because of Joey Armstrong, the owner of a casino who he owed a debt to. Joey also happened to be having an affair with Doug’s wife Vanessa McBride.
Lauren Buglioli, who plays Vanessa, posted a tribute to Jason on her Instagram.
“I love you, husband,” she wrote, adding the infinity sign emoji.
Beyond the Gates creator and showrunner Michele Val Jean commented on the post and wrote, “I’m a horrible person.”
